Regents Meeting (Sun. 21 Apr, 2013 9:00 am - 10:00 am)

The New Mexico Tech Board of Regents will meet in regular session at 9 a.m. Sunday, April 21, in the Copper Room of the Macey Center on campus in Socorro. A complete agenda will be available at the Office of the President, Brown Hall 217, or by email at pio@nmt.edu. An executive session is scheduled to discuss personnel and legal matters.  [This is not a mistake. The meeting is on Sunday.]

'Valles Caldera' on PBS (Sun. 21 Apr, 2013 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm)

The PBS mini-series, Valles Caldera, will be broadcast on Channel 5 at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 18, and again at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 21. The three-part science show features Tech graduate students Jesus Gomez and Paul Gabrielson, and Fraser Goff, who now works for the Bureau in the StateMap Program, is an adjunct faculty in the Earth and Environmental Science Department and is retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Master's Defense - Computer Science (Wed. 24 Apr, 2013 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm)

James Wernicke, master's student in the Computer Science and Engineering Department, will defend his thesis "Detecting Suspicious Android Applications By Permission Requests."  Anyone interested in learning about the risks of permissions requested by applications on your Android device without being an expert in Android security,is encouraged to attend.  2 p.m. in Cramer 221

Bike Club Wrench-A-Thon (Wed. 24 Apr, 2013 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm)

Students, staff, and community are welcome to bring their bikes for minor repairs. You do the work, but the NMT Bike Club will provide tools, instructions, and minor parts. No charge, but donations are appreciated. 4 to 6 p.m. at the Macey Center loading dock.

St. Patrick's Catholic Newman Center (Wed. 24 Apr, 2013 7:00 pm)

The Newman Center at New Mexico Tech is a Catholic organization which serves students seeking to grow in their faith. Meetings include fellowship, discussions, and dinner. All are welcome! 7 p.m. at the Newman Center on School of Mines Road.

InterVarsity Large Group (Wed. 24 Apr, 2013 8:30 pm)

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship's large group meeting is a time for communal growth and personal transformation. It can involve anything from thought-provoking messages to worship nights, from quiet evenings of prayer to loud games.  Everyone is welcome! 8:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the SAC.

Graduate Studies Spring Picnic Potluck (Thu. 25 Apr, 2013 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm)

The Center for Graduate Studies and the Graduate Student Association invite all graduate students, faculty, staff, and families to the 2013 Spring Picnic Potluck in the ballrooms of the Macey Center. (This is a change of location, due to expected windy conditions). Barbecue fare will be provided. Please bring your favorite side dish or dessert! A raffle of great prizes will be held to raise funds for graduate student scholarships.  Please join us!

Swing Dance (Thu. 25 Apr, 2013 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm)

Weekly Swing Dance held in the SAC hosted by the New Mexico Tech Ballroom Dance Club. Everyone is welcome. Lessons are held before the dance most nights. 8 to 10:30 p.m.

NMT Auto Racing Club Meeting (Thu. 25 Apr, 2013 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm)

Spring 2013 Owl Bar Run (Fri. 26 Apr, 2013 7:00 am - 7:00 pm)

Enjoy the breath-taking views and the beautiful spring weather along the Rio Grande as you walk, jog or run the 13 mile course from Tech gymnasium to the Owl Bar in San Antonio, N.M. This is a non-competitive event. Participation can be individual or as a group. Participants can leave anytime during the day. Water stations will be placed along the trail at the 4 mile marker, 6, 8, 10, and 12. Once you reach the Owl, the friendly folks inside will give one complimentary non-alcoholic drink of your choice. Transportation back to Socorro is available at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. The Tech Physical Recreation Department will have Owl Bar Run T-shirts free for participants or $5 for non-participants. Maps can be picked up at the gym. 

NRAO Colloquium (Fri. 26 Apr, 2013 11:00 am - 12:00 pm)

Joanna Rankin of University of Vermont will present the New Mexico NRAO Colloquium. She will discuss "Synchronous X-ray and Radio Mode Changing in Pulsar B0943+10: Evidence for a Rapid Global Transformation of the Magnetosphere." All NRAO employees are invited to attend via video. The following rooms have been reserved at NRAO sites: CVAUD/GB137/TUC525. The colloquium is at 11 a.m.

Chemistry Department Seminar (Fri. 26 Apr, 2013 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm)

Oluwaseun Ogunro, graduate student at Tech, will present the Chemistry Department seminar. His talk is titled, "Macromolecular Sources Of Marine Organic Aerosols." All are welcome to attend. Noon in Cramer 101.

Master's of Science for Teachers Seminar (Fri. 26 Apr, 2013 4:15 pm - 6:45 pm)

Jamie Spears, graduate student in the Master's of Science for Teachers, presents her independent study, "Bridging the Gap Between a Current High School Scientific Method and College Readiness Expectations." The public is invited. 4:15 p.m. in Cramer 108.

NM Tech Press Board of Directors Annual Meeting (Fri. 26 Apr, 2013 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm)

The New Mexico Tech Press is a new publishing house set up under the auspices of the university. The annual meeting is open to anyone. 11 a.m. in Fitch 106/107. 

NMT Caregivers (Fri. 26 Apr, 2013 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm)

The NMT Caregivers will be assembling medical kits to send overseas to nurses and doctors in Africa.  The kits will help medical professionals assist those living with AIDS, as well as help provide medical services to rural communities. Meet at the Macey Center from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday to help package the kits and prepare them for shipping!

Star Wars marathon (Sat. 27 Apr, 2013 9:30 am - 11:30 pm)

Attention Star Wars fans!  Starting at 9:30 a.m. in Workman 101 and continuing until 2 a.m. (or so) Sunday.  The screening will proceed in order that the films were made, starting with Episode IV: A New Hope, followed by The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Then, the prequel movies will shown in order.
