Spring Fling (Sun. 14 Apr, 2013 12:00 pm - 10:00 pm)

Spring Fling continues with Student Activities Board festivities:

The Longboard Downhill Race begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Fine Arts Center. Registration starts at 11:15 a.m. A "black tar slalom" will begin at 1 p.m. on East Road just past EMRTC.

The Knife Throwing Club will be on hand from 11 to 7 p.m. with demonstrations and knives for people to throw.

The Awesome Carnival starts at noon at the Athletic Field, with sno cones, popcorn, cotton candy, foam party, the Explosives Club thermite booth, belly dancing, butt sketch artist, bikini barbecue and much, much more.

Comedian Sean Carlin and guests will perform at 5 p.m. at the Athletic Field.

Graduate students and Tech scholars can pre-register for fall classes beginning today -- either online or in person at the Registrar's Office in the Fidel Center.

Physics Master's Defense (Mon. 15 Apr, 2013 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

Jacob Trueblood, master's student in the Physics Department, will present his thesis defense titled "Triggered Upward Negative Lightning Leaders." 3 p.m. in Workman 101.

Python 01 (Tue. 16 Apr, 2013 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm)

Python Section 1 classes are free every Tuesday from 5:30 to 6:20 p.m. in Speare 116

SGA Meeting (Tue. 16 Apr, 2013 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm)

Students are encouraged to come and express any concerns. 8 p.m. in the third floor Fidel ballrooms. A pizza and soda social in the SGA offices will begin at 7:15 before the Senate meeting.

Physics Master's Defense (Wed. 17 Apr, 2013 9:00 am - 10:00 am)

Alisa Shtromberg master's student in the Physics Department, will present her thesis defense titled "Magdalena Ridge Observatory Interferometer Automated Alignment System" at 9 a.m. in Speare 113 (CITL). 

Bike Club Wrench-A-Thon (Wed. 17 Apr, 2013 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm)

Students, staff, and community are welcome to bring their bikes for minor repairs. You do the work, but the NMT Bike Club will provide tools, instructions, and minor parts. No charge, but donations are appreciated. 4 to 6 p.m. at the Macey Center loading dock.

Spring Semester Student Forum (Wed. 17 Apr, 2013 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm)

Students are encouraged to share their thoughts, concerns and/or issues with Tech President Dr. Daniel Lopez, the vice presidents, and staff members at an open forum in Ballroom A of the Fidel Center from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 17. Students, please send your thoughts and/or concerns to the Student Government President Sohaib Soliman at sohaib@nmt.edu 

St. Patrick's Catholic Newman Center (Wed. 17 Apr, 2013 7:00 pm)

The Newman Center at New Mexico Tech is a Catholic organization which serves students seeking to grow in their faith. Meetings include fellowship, discussions, and dinner. All are welcome! 7 p.m. at the Newman Center on School of Mines Road.

American Society of Mechanical Engineers Meeting (Wed. 17 Apr, 2013 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm)

The New Mexico Tech student chapter of the ASME meets at 7 p.m. in Weir 102.  All are welcome to join in the food and fun.

InterVarsity Large Group (Wed. 17 Apr, 2013 8:30 pm)

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship's large group meeting is a time for communal growth and personal transformation. It can involve anything from thought-provoking messages to worship nights, from quiet evenings of prayer to loud games.  Everyone is welcome! 8:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the SAC.

Macey Scholar Presentations (Thu. 18 Apr, 2013 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

The public is invited to join us for the 2012-2013 Macey Scholar presentations. The students will present on their current research and/or topics of current intersest.  The 2012-2013 Macey Scholars are Laura Montoya, Hannah Sullivan, Sohaib Soliman and Brian Stanley. The presentations will be at 2 p.m. in Cramer 221.

Python 02 (Thu. 18 Apr, 2013 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

Python 02 classes will be held every Thursday from 4 to 4:50 p.m. in Speare 116. 

Earth Science Seminar (Thu. 18 Apr, 2013 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

Dale Anderson is a seismologist at Los Alamos National Laboratory and will present an Earth and Environmental Science Department seminar. He will talk on "Nuclear Weapon Test Treaties: Brief History and Enabling Research."  4 p.m. in MSEC 101.

Physics Dept. Seminar Series (Thu. 18 Apr, 2013 4:00 pm)

Two graduate students in the department will be presenting results of research. Lorraine Bowman will discuss "Power Law Structure of the Interstellar Medium" and Virginie Montes will discuss "How Do Massive Stars Form?" 4 p.m. in Workman 101.

'Valles Caldera' on PBS (Thu. 18 Apr, 2013 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm)

The PBS mini-series, Valles Caldera, will be broadcast on Channel 5 at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 18, and again at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 21. The three-part science show features Tech graduate students Jesus Gomez and Paul Gabrielson, and Fraser Goff, who now works for the Bureau in the StateMap Program, is an adjunct faculty in the Earth and Environmental Science Department and is retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Swing Dance (Thu. 18 Apr, 2013 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm)

Weekly Swing Dance held in the SAC hosted by the New Mexico Tech Ballroom Dance Club. Everyone is welcome. Lessons are held before the dance most nights. 8 to 10:30 p.m.

NMT Auto Racing Club Meeting (Thu. 18 Apr, 2013 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm)

Janelle Villone, a doctoral candidate in the Materials Engineering Department, will present "Ion Beam-Induced Luminescence of Advanced Materials and Their Application in Ion Photon Emission Microscopy." 8 a.m. in Cramer 127.

Tech graduate Nikhilesh Chawla is the Fulton Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Arizona State University.  He will present the Materials Engineering Department seminar, titled "In Situ X-ray Synchrotron Tomography of Deformation in Metallic Materials." 11:45 a.m. in Cramer 124

Chemistry seminar (Fri. 19 Apr, 2013 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm)

International Potluck/Picnic (Sat. 20 Apr, 2013 1:00 pm)

Both international students and American students are invited to join us for an end-of-the-year picnic at 1 p.m. at La Raj (the picnic area on the south side of the gym). You are invited to bring a dish from home to share with others, or you can just come and enjoy the food. It is a good break for students working hard on end-of-semester projects. Co-sponsored by the Writing and Oral Presentation Center and International Programs.
