Materials Engineering Dissertation Defense (Mon. 1 Apr, 2013 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm)

Yongming Tian, a doctoral candidate in the Materials Engineering Department, will present "Porphyrin Cooperative Binary Ionic Solids: Structures, Compositions and Photochemical Properties." 2 p.m. in Jones Hall 106.

Mechanical Engineering Seminar (Tue. 2 Apr, 2013 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm)

Dr. John Schwarzkopf, a staff scientist at Los Alamos National lab and will be presenting the Mechanical Engineering Department Seminar. He will talk about predictive capability in modeling variable density shock driven turbulence. 2 p.m. in Cramer 124.

Faculty Senate (Tue. 2 Apr, 2013 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

The Faculty Senate will meet at 4 p.m. in Workman 101.

Python 01 (Tue. 2 Apr, 2013 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm)

Python Section 1 classes are free every Tuesday from 5:30 to 6:20 p.m. in Speare 116

SGA Meeting (Tue. 2 Apr, 2013 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm)

Students are encouraged to come and express any concerns. 8 p.m. in the third floor Fidel ballrooms. A pizza and soda social in the SGA offices will begin at 7:15 before the Senate meeting.

Bike Club Wrench-A-Thon (Wed. 3 Apr, 2013 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm)

Students, staff, and community are welcome to bring their bikes for minor repairs. You do the work, but the NMT Bike Club will provide tools, instructions, and minor parts. No charge, but donations are appreciated. 4 to 6 p.m. at the Macey Center loading dock.

Grade Option Deadline (Wed. 3 Apr, 2013 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm)

This is the last day to change your grading option.

St. Patrick's Catholic Newman Center (Wed. 3 Apr, 2013 7:00 pm)

The Newman Center at New Mexico Tech is a Catholic organization which serves students seeking to grow in their faith. Meetings include fellowship, discussions, and dinner. All are welcome! 7 p.m. at the Newman Center on School of Mines Road.

American Society of Mechanical Engineers Meeting (Wed. 3 Apr, 2013 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm)

The New Mexico Tech student chapter of the ASME meets at 7 p.m. in Weir 102.  All are welcome to join in the food and fun.

InterVarsity Large Group (Wed. 3 Apr, 2013 8:30 pm)

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship's large group meeting is a time for communal growth and personal transformation. It can involve anything from thought-provoking messages to worship nights, from quiet evenings of prayer to loud games.  Everyone is welcome! 8:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the SAC.

SAB Movie Night at the Loma theater (Wed. 3 Apr, 2013 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm)

Swing Dance (Thu. 4 Apr, 2013 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm)

Weekly Swing Dance held in the SAC hosted by the New Mexico Tech Ballroom Dance Club. Everyone is welcome. Lessons are held before the dance most nights. 8 to 10:30 p.m.

NMT Auto Racing Club Meeting (Thu. 4 Apr, 2013 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm)

The NMT Automotive Racing Club (NMTARC) meets weekly at 8 p.m. Thursdays in Workman 101. Come and help plan for upcoming autocrosses, rallycrosses, cruises, and shop nights. Everyone is welcome to join! Contact us at nmtarc@nmt.edu.

Student Research Symposium (Fri. 5 Apr, 2013 9:00 am - 5:00 pm)

The second annual Student Research Symposium will be all day in the third-floor ballrooms of the Fidel Center.  Students from all academic departments will present their research. The poster sessions will be in the morning, with oral presentations in the afternoon. A guest speaker will be scheduled for the lunch hour.

Chemistry seminar (Fri. 5 Apr, 2013 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm)

Professor Craig Merlic of the Chemistry Department at UCLA will present the Chemistry Department seminar. His talk is titled, "Copper and Palladium Based Oxidative Coupling Strategies." Noon in Cramer 101

N.M. Science & Engineering Fair (Fri. 5 Apr, 2013 5:00 pm - Sat. 6 Apr, 2013 8:00 pm)

State Finals of the N.M. Science and Engineering Fair. Hundreds of students representing dozens of middle schools and high schools from all areas of New Mexico come to Socorro to have their science and engineering projects judged by faculty, scientists, engineers, and other professionals in 14 categories. Registration is Friday, with a pizza party sponsored by New Mexico Tech for contestants. The judging is all day Saturday. The awards ceremonies will be at Macey Center on Saturday evening.

Street Beat (Fri. 5 Apr, 2013 7:30 pm)

The Performing Arts Series presents Street Beat, a high energy, kinetic urban rhythm and dance with recycled percussion. Free for Tech students. General Admission: $20/Adult; $18/Senior; $10/Youth. 7:30 p.m. at Macey Center.

 

The Vagina Monologues (Fri. 5 Apr, 2013 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm)

NMT and ASK present The Vagina Monologues, by Eve Ensler. Based off of hundreds of interviews with different women, this play is funny, clever, shocking, uncomfortable, and uplifting all at once. Tickets are $8 for students, $12 for adults. All proceeds and donations will be going to El Puente del Socorro for domestic violence victims. The play will be performed in the Seery Gym at Socorro High School.

State Finals of the N.M. Science and Engineering Fair. New Mexico State Science and Engineering Fair (Sat. 6 Apr, 2013 8:00 am - 8:00 pm)

The annual New Mexico State Science and Engineering Fair features up to 300 high school and middle school research projects. The event will be all day Saturday in the gymnasium, with the awards assembly in the evening at Macey Center. Tech students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to volunteer as judges.

Glass Workshop Fused Glass Jewelry (Sat. 6 Apr, 2013 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm)

The Community Education program is offering a workshop on fused glass jewelry in time for Mother's Day or graduation. Learn techniques from a master glass craftsman in this 4 hour workshop. Cost is $25 ($20 tuition and $5 materials fee). Class is non-credit and open to the public. Registar on Banweb or with the Registrar. 8 a.m. to noon at the Fine Arts Center.

First Saturday Star Party (Sat. 6 Apr, 2013 6:00 pm)

The Astronomy Club will have a star party after the VLA tours. The event is free and open to the public, so come out and join us at the Etscorn Observatory. The club hosts star parties on the first Saturday of each month starting at dusk.
