La Pastorela (Sun. 9 Dec, 2012 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm)

La Pastorela, the traditional Christmas play by La Gran Pastorela de Belen group, will be at 6 p.m. December 9, at the Garcia Opera House. The public is invited and there is no admission charge. This is sponsored by El Camino Real Heritage Center Foundation. More information on our website at: http://www.caminorealheritage.com/home_004.htm. Another performance will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church on the corner of Spring and California streets.

 

 

Midnight Breakfast (Sun. 9 Dec, 2012 11:00 pm - 11:59 pm)

Start finals week with late night breakfast, courtesy of New Mexico Tech. From 11 p.m. Sunday to 1 a.m. Monday, breakfast will be served in the dining hall for all Tech students who need a break from studying or who just want to carb load for the week. This event is FREE for all Tech Students and is sponsored by the SAB (Student Activities Board).

Chemistry Department Seminar (Mon. 10 Dec, 2012 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm)

Dr. Eric Walter, of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, is a faculty candidate in the Chemistry Department. He will give a talk on "The Prion Protein and Copper: Structure, Affinity and Cooperativity." 2 p.m. in Weir 129.

Collections will be ongoing from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.  Monetary donations will also be accepted.

Sport club members will be in Fidel Center atrium throughout finals week to collect non-perishable food items and gently used clothing for Socorro Storehouse and the day shelter, Puerto Seguro.  Bring donations and receive a baked good as our thanks. Collections will be ongoing from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.  Monetary donations will also be accepted.

Stress Relief Massage Event (Tue. 11 Dec, 2012 11:00 am - 3:00 pm)

Take a quick break from studying and get a 10 minute massage. The SAB (Student Activities Board) is sponsoring a Stress Relief Massage event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday  and Wednesday. Five students will be giving massages both days. Third floor of Fidel Center. FREE to all Tech Students. Take advantage and get some relief!   

E&ES Master's Thesis Defense (Tue. 11 Dec, 2012 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm)

Jacob "Jake" Anderson, master's student in the Earth and Environmental Science Department, will defend his thesis, "Mapping Thunder Sources By Inverting Acoustic and Electromagnetic Observations," at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, in MSEC 203.

St. Patrick's Catholic Newman Center (Wed. 12 Dec, 2012 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm)

The Newman Center at New Mexico Tech is a Catholic organization which serves students seeking to grow in their faith. Meetings include fellowship, discussions, and dinner. All are welcome. 7 p.m. at the Newman Center on School of Mines Road.

Legislative Open Forum (Thu. 13 Dec, 2012 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm)

State Rep. Don Tripp of Socorro and state Sen. Howie Morales of Silver City will be at New Mexico Tech to visit the facilities and meet with administrators on Thursday, Dec. 13. This has become a sort of annual tradition as a preparation for the upcoming legislative session. This visit is an opportunity for our legislators to listen to their constituents about various issues. President Dr. Daniel H. López will greet the legislators and escort them to the new engineering lab in Cramer 114. They will also visit the Bureau of Geology before hosting an open forum at about 2:30 p.m. in the Fidel Center ballroom A. All are invited to the open forum and welcome to bring forward any ideas or concerns, particularly those that may relate to the upcoming 2013 legislative session.

Physics Dissertation Defense (Thu. 13 Dec, 2012 9:00 pm - 10:00 pm)

Sonja Behnke, doctoral candidate in the Physics Department, will defend her thesis, titled "Studies of Volcanic Lightning Using the Lightning Mapping Array." Behnke's dissertation presents results from VHF lightning mapping studies of volcanic lightning that occurred during the eruptions of Redoubt Volcano (Alaksa, 2009) and Eyjafjallajökull (Iceland, 2010). 2 p.m. in Speare 113.
