Presidential Chamber Music Series (Mon. 26 Nov, 2012 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm)

The Performing Arts Series presents the second Presidential Music Series concert of the year. This performance is Piano Sextets. Enjoy renowned chamber music hosted by violist Willy Sucre. Free admission. 7:30 p.m. at Macey Center.

Annual Employee Benefits Fair (Tue. 27 Nov, 2012 8:30 am - 4:30 pm)

The Human Resources Office is hosting the annual Employee Benefits Fair all day Tuesday, Nov. 27, in the third floor ballrooms of the Fidel Center. Meritain, the third-party benefits provider, will have representatives at the event to meet individually with employees. Other service providers will be on hand as well. One-hour sessions will be at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

St. Patrick's Catholic Newman Center (Wed. 28 Nov, 2012 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm)

The Newman Center at New Mexico Tech is a Catholic organization which serves students seeking to grow in their faith. Meetings include fellowship, discussions, and dinner. All are welcome. 7 p.m. at the Newman Center on School of Mines Road.

NRAO Colloquium (Thu. 29 Nov, 2012 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm)

Yasuo Fukui of Nagoya University in Japan will present the NRAO Special Colloquium. Dr. Fukui will speak about “The Giant Molecular Clouds in the Magellanic Clouds.” The Large and Small Magellanic Clouds are the nearest galaxies to our own. Surveys of these galaxies using the NANTEN 4m telescope in Chile have revealed more than 300 resolved giant molecular clouds and allowed scientists to make a first statistical study on their evolution and formation. 2 p.m. in the DSOC Auditorium, broadcast by video.

Chemistry Department Seminar (Thu. 29 Nov, 2012 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm)

Dr. Rodolfo Tello-Aburto, a candidate for a faculty position in chemistry, will present a department seminar. The title of the talk is "Chemistry of Natural Products: Total Synthesis and Methodology Development." Tello-Aburto earned his Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota and is a post-doc at New Mexico State University. 2 p.m. in Weir 129.

Physics Department Seminar (Thu. 29 Nov, 2012 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

Dr. Thomas Greathouse of Southwest Research Institute will present the Physics Department seminar. He will present two topics: Part 1 is “Seasonal Temperature Variations in Saturn’s Stratosphere: Radiative Seasonal Model versus Observations;” Part 2 is “The Thermal Response to Waves Propagating Through Jupiter’s Middle Atmosphere.” Each portion of Dr. Greathouse’s talk will be followed by a brief Q&A session. 4 p.m. in Workman 101.

Earth Science Seminar (Thu. 29 Nov, 2012 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

The Earth and Environmental Science Department, the Hydrology Program and the New Mexico Bureau of Geology & Mineral Resources present the last seminar of the semester. David Schneider of the National Center for Atmospheric Research will discuss "Antarctic Climate, Recent and Future: Do the Global Climate Models Get It Right?" Hosted by Penny Boston. 4 p.m. in MSEC 101.

NMT Chamber Orchestra and Chorus Concert (Thu. 29 Nov, 2012 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm)

Come hear instrumentalists and vocalists from the Tech community, ages 7 to 70, in a concert featuring Handel's "Music for the Royal Fireworks," Mozart's "Marriage of Figaro," Hayes, and others.  On the main stage at the Macey Center. 6 p.m., November 29.

Auto Racing Club Meeting (Thu. 29 Nov, 2012 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm)

The New Mexico Tech Auto Racing Club has weekly meetings at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays in Workman 101. Club members discuss upcoming events, vehicle maintenance and other topics related to auto racing. All are welcome to join.

Swing Dance (Thu. 29 Nov, 2012 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm)

World AIDS Day Bake Sale (Fri. 30 Nov, 2012 10:00 am - 11:04 am)

The  New Mexico Tech Pre-Medical Society, QuASAR, and the Alpha Sigma Kappa Sorority will be sponsoring a World AIDS Day Bake Sale on Friday, November 30, in Fidel from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proceeds from the bake sale will be donated to the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative [(IAVI) http://www.iavi.org/ ], a global non-profit, public-private partnership working to accelerate the development of vaccines to prevent HIV infection and AIDS.

Talk on Interpersonal Communication (Fri. 30 Nov, 2012 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm)

The Humanities and Social Sciences department in collaboration with QuASAR is hosting sex educator Matie Fricker for a lecture on communication. Topics including opening communication with strangers, flirting (including when it's too much or no wanted), communicating in a relationship (platonic or otherwise), and consent. The event will have food and be open to everyone, but we ask you attend with an open mind and respect. 6:30 p.m. in Workman 101.

Lord of the Rings Movie Marathon (Sat. 1 Dec, 2012 10:00 am - 10:00 pm)

Lord of the Rings extended version marathon!  December 1st, Saturday Workman 101.  Free Admission. Fellowship of the Rings will begin at 10 a.m. Two Towers begins at 1:50 p.m. Return of the King will start at 6 p.m. Come and watch the Lord of the Rings with your friends. Bring homework or study material while watching the movie. Snacks will be sold throughout the showing. Hosted by the student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Fine Arts Festival (Sat. 1 Dec, 2012 11:00 am - 4:00 pm)

The New Mexico Tech Community Education invites the public to attend a Fine Arts Show, Sale and speciality Workshop. The show and sale will highlight student work from the fall 2012 semester. Each workshop is just $10 per one-hour class.  Workshop attendees will complete a take-home project in each class, such as paint-your-own ceramics, ornament making, jewelry making, and other special handmade gifts. We will also have entertainment, music, and food, so plan to have lunch with us and join the fun. Starts at 11 a.m. at the Fine Arts Center on Canyon Road, across from the Golf Shop.

First Saturday Star Party (Sat. 1 Dec, 2012 6:00 pm)

The Astronomy Club will have a star party after the VLA tours. The event is free and open to the public, so come out and join us at the Etscorn Observatory. The club hosts star parties on the first Saturday of each month starting at dusk.
