The Performing Arts Series presents Alfred Hitchcock's "The 39 Steps," the award winning, longest running Broadway comedy thriller, with over 150 characters. Free for Tech students. General Admission: $20/Adult; $18/Senior; $10/Youth. 7:30 p.m. at Macey Center.

Halloween Costume Contest (Wed. 31 Oct, 2012 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm)

The annual Halloween Costume Contest in the Atrium of Fidel. Registration for the contest will be from noon to 12:15 p.m.. There are two divisions; Students and Faculty/Staff. Judging will begin after registration. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third in each division.

TCC design roundtable (Thu. 1 Nov, 2012 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

Free-form software design clinic offered by the Tech Computer Center. This week's topic will be preparing high-quality vector graphic figures and diagrams with an open-source alternative to Adobe Illustrator.  4 p.m. in Speare 116.

Physics Department Seminar (Thu. 1 Nov, 2012 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

Dr. Nicole Vogt, associate professor of astronomy at New Mexico State University, will present a Physics Department seminar at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, in the third floor ballroom of the Fidel Center. Vogt will present, “The General Education Astronomy Source (GEAS) Project: Extending the Reach of Astronomy Education.” In New Mexico, the doubling of the statewide requirement for laboratory science courses at the college level represents both an opportunity to further aid in the development of math and science skills in our general population, and an added barrier to degree completion. Vogt will discuss the compelling need for alternate avenues for teaching science in New Mexico. She will present a set of NASA- and NSF-sponsored resources to aid in teaching astronomy at the college level, including an online tutor with 12,000+ questions, an instructor review interface, and a set of laboratory exercises accessible via distance education.

Auto Racing Club Meeting (Thu. 1 Nov, 2012 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm)

The New Mexico Tech Auto Racing Club has weekly meetings at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays in Workman 101. Club members discuss upcoming events, vehicle maintenance and other topics related to auto racing. All are welcome to join.

Talking In Triangles: Communicating Science To Non-STEM Audiences (Fri. 2 Nov, 2012 8:00 am - 11:00 am)

Dan Agan, professional communicator and media consultant, will present a workshop for faculty, staff and students titled "Talking in Triangles: Communicating Science to Non-STEM Audiences." ACUI Billiards Tourney Entry Deadline (Fri. 2 Nov, 2012 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm)

The deadline to enter the ACUI national qualifying tourney is 6:30 p.m. This is a 9-ball tourney. Students only. The local qualifier will be November 10 and 11. There are two divisions: men and women.

Game Room Tournament (Fri. 2 Nov, 2012 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm)

The game room is hosting tournaments, including billiards, poker, and ping pong. The winners of each section will win prizes and will be eligible enter the final tournament at the end of the semester. Sign up in the Game Room.

Magic Tournament (Sat. 3 Nov, 2012 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm)

The game room and Residential Life are hosting an event in the game room for Magic the Gathering. Starts at 3 p.m. Registration is limited to 35 and starts at 5 p.m. October 15.

First Saturday Star Party (Sat. 3 Nov, 2012 6:00 pm)

The Astronomy Club will have a star party after the VLA tours. The event is free and open to the public so come out and join us at the Etscorn Observatory. The club hosts star parties on the first Saturday of each month starting at dusk.
