Enough with the imperative languages! Let's get together to talk about functional programming: using, Lisp, Haskell, Erlang and others. For people interested in playing with functional languages, or drop by to see what the fuss is all about at 'M' Mountain Cafe on the plaza.

Billiards Tourney Deadline #1 (Tue. 25 Sep, 2012 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm)

Today (Tuesday, Sept. 25) is the deadline to enter the cut-throat tourney, which will take place September 29 and 30. Sign up by 6:30 p.m. in the game room in Fidel Center. The Billy Aards Club is hosting a Cut Throat tournament (self-seeding) in the game room. The schedule for cash prizes is on the Billy Aardd's Club web-site at http://infohost.nmt.edu/~billiard/tournaments/index.html.. Open to students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

St. Patrick's Catholic Newman Center (Wed. 26 Sep, 2012 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm)

The Newman Center at New Mexico Tech is a Catholic organization which serves students seeking to grow in their faith. Meetings include fellowship, discussions, and dinner. All are welcome. 7 p.m. at the Newman Center on School of Mines Road. 

Billiards Tourney Deadline #2 (Wed. 26 Sep, 2012 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm)

The Billy Aards Club is hosting tournaments in 7-ball, 8-b all and 9-ball. The entry deadline is 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26.Three divisions are being offered based on skill level ("A", B", and "C"). The tournaments start October 1 and run through November 17.

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (Wed. 26 Sep, 2012 8:45 pm - 10:15 pm)

InterVarsity, or IV, is an interdenominational Christian ministry and fellowship led by students and geared toward evangelism in a campus environment. Our vision is to see students and faculty transformed, campuses renewed, and world changers developed. Intervarsity is a place of community and fellowship, worship and Bible study, and a place to make a difference on this campus and in this world. All are welcome. 8:45 p.m. in the SAC.

Mathematica8 Seminar (Thu. 27 Sep, 2012 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm)

Brenda Marshall of Wolfram Research Inc. will present a seminar titled “Mathematica8: Up Close and Personal” at 4 p.m. in Workman 101. This is a joint seminar of the Physics Department and the Mineral Engineering Department. Marshall will focus on the latest directions in technical computing with Mathematica8, specifically for education and research. She will discuss Mathematica8’s wide variety of theoretical and practical applications, including STEM fields, economics, business and liberal arts. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.

Auto Racing Club Meeting (Thu. 27 Sep, 2012 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm)

The New Mexico Tech Auto Racing Club has weekly meetings at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays in Workman 101. Club members discuss upcoming events, vehicle maintenance and other topics related to auto racing. All are welcome to join.

Swing Dance (Thu. 27 Sep, 2012 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm)

Weekly swing dance held in the SAC. Everyone is welcome. Lessons held before the dance most nights. 8 to 10:30 p.m.

Verge Fund Speaker Series (Fri. 28 Sep, 2012 11:00 am - 12:00 pm)

Dr. Milton Chang, Managing Director of Incubic Management, is the guest speaker for the Verge Fund Speaker Series, is an ongoing partnership between the New Mexico Tech Department of Management and the Verge Fund (http://www.vergefund.com/). Milton Chang is an entrepreneur, investor and author of Toward Entrepreneurship: Establishing a Successful Technology Business. As an angel investor, he served on the boards of Uniphase (now JDSU) and 11 other startups that either went public or were acquired. Today he writes a monthly business/management column for a trade publication, sits on the boards of several startup companies, and advices entrepreneurs. Dr. Chang earned his PhD from the California Institute of Technology, where he is currently a trustee. 11 a.m. in MSEC 105
