Santa Fe Opera Apprentices on Tour (Thu. 1 May, 2014 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm)

New Mexico Tech Performing Arts Series presents the Santa Fe Opera Apprentices on Tour, featuring three rising-star opera singers performing excerpts from popular operas and a one-act operetta. Young Authors Poetry Contest (Sat. 3 May, 2014 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

The Young Authors Poetry Contest will have an awards ceremony for students in pre-kindergarten through high school. This contest is sponsored by the Socorro County Youth Coalition and the CLASS Department at New Mexico Tech. Macey Annex at 3 p.m. on May 3.

Association for Computing Machinery meeting (Mon. 5 May, 2014 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm)

Join the Tech student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery, the premier professional society for computer scientists. Weekly meetings are at 8 p.m. Mondays in Cramer 101. Meetings include technical lectures and planning for events including programming competitions, outreach activities, game jams, and other items.

Valerie Connaughton of NASA is the guest speaker for the NRAO colloquium. She will present, "Terrestial Gamma Ray Flashes, Lightning and Radio Signals." 11 a.m. in the auditorium of the Domenici Science Operations Center (NRAO) in Socorro.

Civil and Environmental Engineering Thesis Defense (Fri. 9 May, 2014 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm)

Jeremiah Bihl, a master's student in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, will defend his master's thesis, titled "Surface Chemical Controls on Hydrocarbon Adhesion to Clays." Noon in Jones Annex 108.

 

Board of Regents Meeting (Fri. 9 May, 2014 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm)

New Mexico Tech alumni are invited to join the Office for Advancement and Alumni Relations for an alumni, family and friends picnic in Albuquerque from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 18. This fun event will be at the Kiwanis Reservation Area at Elena Gallegos Picnic Area, east of Tramway Boulevard on Simms Park Road. Tech will provide barbecue from Rudy's. Please bring salad, vegetable or dessert to share. BYOB. Dr. Gayan Rubasinghege is a candidate for a faculty position in the Chemistry Department. He will present a special department seminar, titled "Food for the Ocean: Simulated Atmospheric Processing of Fe-Containing Mineral Dust at Low pH Environments."
