Earth Science Talk (Thu. 21 Feb, 2013 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm)

Dr. Rebecca Flowers of the University of Colorado will present an informal talk about her research: "Apatite 4He/3He and (U-Th)/He Evidence for An Ancient Grand Canyon." Flowers has proposed that the Grand Canyon is 65 million to 70 million years old, which is contrary to the prevailing hypothesis that the canyon is ~6 million years old.  http://nyti.ms/Ws3sTu . Dr. Rebecca Flowers of the University of Colorado will present the Earth and Environmental Science Department seminar.  She will present "Epeirogeny or Eustasy? Deciphering the Rise and Fall of Continental Interiors and Implications for Mantle Dynamics." 4 p.m. in MSEC 101.

Physics Department Seminar (Thu. 21 Feb, 2013 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

Dr. Ylva Pihlstrom is a professor of physics and astronomy at the University of New Mexico. She will present the Physics Department seminar, titled “Methanol Masers in the Galactic Center and in Supernova Remnants.” Dr. Pilhstrom will discuss how she uses the EVLA to detect methanol masers in the Galactic Center region. 4 p.m. in Workman 101.

Swing Dance (Thu. 21 Feb, 2013 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm)

Weekly Swing Dance held in the SAC hosted by the New Mexico Tech Ballroom Dance Club. Everyone is welcome. Lessons are held before the dance most nights. 8 to 10:30 p.m.

NMT Auto Racing Club Meeting (Thu. 21 Feb, 2013 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm)
