Owl Bar Run (Fri. 5 Oct, 2012 8:00 am)

Enjoy the breath taking views and the beautiful fall weather along the Rio Grande as you walk, jog or run the 13-mile course from Tech gymnasium to the Owl Bar in San Antonio, N.M. This is a non-competitive event. Participation can be individual or as a group. Participants can leave anytime during the day. Water stations will be placed along the trail at the 4 mile marker, 6, 8, 10, and 12. Once you reach the Owl, the friendly folks inside will give one complimentary non-alcoholic drink of your choice. Transportation back to Socorro is available at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. The Tech Physical Recreation Department will have Owl Bar Run T-shirts free for participants or $5 for non-participants. Maps can be picked up at the gym. 

Verge Fund Speaker Series (Fri. 5 Oct, 2012 11:00 am - 12:00 pm)

Tom Stephenson is an investor and co-founder of the Verge Fund, which sponsors the Verge Fund Speaker Series at New Mexico Tech. He was previously a General Partner of various funds under Murphree Venture Partners and Director of Education and Research for the Austin Technology Incubator (ATI), a world-recognized leader in fostering the development of high-technology start-up companies. Tom represents Verge Fund on several boards and is active in several non-profit organizations. He earned his M.B.A. in Information Management and Technology Transfer from the University of Texas at Austin. 11 a.m. in MSEC 105.

Chemistry Graduate Seminar (Fri. 5 Oct, 2012 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm)

Daniel Leonard, master's student at Tech, will present "Photochemical Reduction of CO2 to Methanol Using Dye-Doped ZnS Nanoparticles."  Noon in Cramer Hall.

Functional Cafe (Fri. 5 Oct, 2012 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm)

Enough with the imperative languages! Let's get together to talk about functional programming: using, Lisp, Haskell, Erlang and others. For people interested in playing with functional languages, or drop by to see what the fuss is all about at 'M' Mountain Cafe on the plaza.

The Dunwells (Fri. 5 Oct, 2012 7:30 pm)

This up-and-coming British pop, folk, bluesy harmonizing rock band will perform at Macey Center. Free for Tech students. General Admission: $16/Adult; $14/Senior; $8/Youth. 7:30 p.m. at Macey Center.

Hailstorm Day (Fri. 5 Oct, 2012 8:30 pm - 8:31 pm)

Anniversary of the Great Socorro Hailstorm of 2004.
