Tech Community Mourns Loss of Marliss Monette
Services Set for Wednesday at San Miguel

Marliss MonetteThe New Mexico Tech campus community is mourning after the unexpected death of Marliss Monette, the University's Director of Financial Aid, last Friday afternoon, Dec. 16. She was 51.

"The Tech community is a family within itself, and the loss of someone so young and vital affects us all," President Stephen Wells said. "Marliss was the epitome of what an employee should be – loyal, caring and committed. That her final hours were spent in service to the University, its employees and families, reflects the qualities so admired by others. On behalf of Bethany and myself, our deepest condolences go out to the Monette family and to Marliss's Tech family as well."

Services for Marliss are scheduled to begin with the recitation of the Rosary at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at San Miguel Church in Socorro. The Mass of the Resurrection will follow.

To aid those with the grieving process, the New Mexico Tech Employee Assistance Program is available today at 1 p.m. in Brown Hall Conference Room 210. Those needing one-on-one help may meet with an EAP representative after the general meeting.

Marliss joined the New Mexico Tech Financial Aid Office in 2000 as an office counselor. She was promoted to assistant director in 2004, and had served as director since 2014. She was known as a strong and caring student advocate with a positive attitude and can-do spirit. If there was a need, Marliss was the first to volunteer to help.

She was devoted to her family and doted on her two granddaughters, Ryan and Drew Crespin.
Survivors include her husband, Danny Monette, daughter Rhiannon Crespin and her husband Scotty and their daughters; son Cooper Monette, daughter Danielle Monette, and her parents, Arliss and Betty Foutz, among a host of extended family.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship at New Mexico Tech has been set up in Marliss's name. For more information or if you'd like to contribute, please reach the Advancement office at the following number:  (575) 835-5616 or click HERE
