Tech Prof Selected For Fulbright Specialist Roster

New Mexico Tech professor Dr. Ashok K. Ghosh has been accepted into the Fulbright Exchange Roster, giving him the opportunity to consult and teach internationally through the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Dr. Ashok Ghosh

The Roster is a list of candidates who are eligible to be matched with incoming project requests from overseas academic institutions for Fulbright Specialists.  Ghosh completed the lengthy and rigorous application process in order to assist projects related to engineering economics and entrepreneurship.

Ghosh said that when foreign institutions or universities look for assistance from U.S. experts, they go to the local U.S. consulate to file a request. That consulate will then contact the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C., which maintains the Fulbright Roster.

“I am introducing economics and entrepreneurship into my department,” he said. “Students do technical work in senior design. I do the marketing part in my Engineering Economics class. I’ve been talking to students who enjoy the class and maybe one day our students will become entrepreneurs.”

Ghosh said he looks forward to helping out in other countries.

“What’s good for this country is also good for other countries,” he said. “I’ll go to another country and give a crash course, then they can take over and do similar sorts of things. I hope to popularize this concept.”

Ghosh was recommended for the Roster by the Institute of International Education’s Council for International Exchange of Scholars, or CIES. When grant opportunities become available, the CIES will contact Ghosh for international travel and instruction. Ghosh’s appointment to the Roster will last five years.
