Business Journal Ranks Tech In Top Quartile

SOCORRO, N.M. February 26, 2016 – The American City Business Journals released the annual 2016 public university rankings, with New Mexico Tech slotted as 119th out of 477 schools, just ahead of the other two N.M. research universities.

The Journals, which is the parent company to the weekly Albuquerque Business First magazine, used a 20-part formula to analyze schools. The ranking criteria gave precedence to schools with highly selective admissions processes, strong retention and graduation rates, resources, low tuition and housing costs, faculty and student diversity, and economically robust communities.

The top five schools are the University of North Carolina, University of Michigan, University of Virginia, UCLA and UC-Berkeley.
Tech is sandwiched between No. 118 UNC-Charlotte and No. 120 University of Massachusetts-Boston. UNM ranked No. 127 and NMSU ranked No. 198.

The top 250 were ranked numerically. All other schools were listed alphabetically as "lower echelon" schools.
