Strategic Planning Committee Sets Campus Meetings

SOCORRO, N.M. March 3, 2014 – The Strategic Planning Committee is hosting several town hall meetings to solicit opinions from students, employees and community members about the future direction of New Mexico Tech.

Each of the meetings is intended to gather input about the university’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

Sessions for Tech employees and community residents (all in the Fidel Center ballrooms):

    • 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 4;
    • 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 5;
    • 10 a.m. Friday, March 7.

Everyone is welcome to attend any of these three special sessions.

Session for Tech students  (Fidel Center dining hall):

    • 5 p.m. Thursday, March 6.

This meeting will be conducted by the two committee members who are Tech students: undergraduate Collin Hellwig and grad student Gabrielle Miller.

Session for faculty members (Workman 101):

    • 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 4 (following the Faculty Senate meeting).

The Strategic Planning Committee has been tasked with developing a new three- to five-year plan for New Mexico Tech.

The 24-member committee is focusing its attention on developing Tech’s mission statement and vision statement, in preparation for establishing the university’s goals. Committee members include staff members, faculty members, research staff, administrators, students, alumni and community members.

The committee posts public documents about meetings, discussions and decisions at its website, http://www.nmt.edu/spc-home. Regular announcements, updates and emails will be distributed periodically to the campus community.

The group meets every other week and will continue to meet throughout the year. The goal is to have a new Strategic Plan document finalized by January 1, 2015.
