SOCORRO – New Mexico Tech, the City of Socorro, and the Socorro County Chamber of Commerce are teaming up to give the town a good spring cleaning.
“The First Socorro Community Clean-Up,” co-sponsored by the three local organizations, will be held on Saturday, March 24, from 8 until 11 a.m. at various locations throughout Socorro.
The citywide clean-up effort, which will consist of groups and individuals working to remove litter and accumulated trash from parks, alleyways and other public areas, will begin on Saturday morning with a free pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. at the Epiphany Episcopal Church at 908 Leroy Place.
Free commemorative T-shirts also will be handed out to first 200 participants.
“In addition, a $100 cash prize will be awarded to the group with the largest number of people helping out with the cleanup,” says Brandon Samter, one of the organizers of the First Socorro Community Clean-Up.
“There’s a lot of work to be done, so we certainly welcome the support of anyone and everyone who’s available to help that morning in order to ensure that Socorro gets a good spring cleaning,” Samter adds.
