NMBGR Publishes Field Conference Book, July 2, 2001

SOCORRO, N.M., July 2, 2001 -- The New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources (NMBGMR), a service and research division of New Mexico Tech, has published a field guide associated with a recently held "Decision-Makers Field Conference," which this year strategically focused on water issues in New Mexico.

"New Mexico Decision-Makers Field Guide No. 1 Water, Watersheds, and Land Use in New Mexico," the inaugural issue of a series of guidebooks which will be published in association with a series of annual field conferences, highlights numerous geologic and hydrologic studies made of areas around Santa Fe, Los Alamos, and Placitas.

The guidebook, written by noted authorities in the field, addresses such timely topics as: watershed restoration; downstream delivery of surface water; population growth and water supply; environmental impacts of dams; and effects of endangered species legislation.

The series of annual field conferences was developed by the NMBGMR and is co-sponsored by several other state, federal, and local government agencies as a means of bringing together a diverse mix of state and local political leaders, state agency directors, and other influential citizens to examine and discuss selected science policy, natural resources, and environmental issues in a hands-on, field study setting.

The 160-page field guidebook is available for $15, plus $2.50 for shipping and handling from the NMBGMR. For more information about the field guide or any other NMBGMR publications, write to the Bureau Publications Office, New Mexico Tech, 801 Leroy Place, Socorro, NM 87801, or call (505) 835- 5410, or visit the website at http://geoinfo.nmt.edu.
