Tech Now Offers E-Billing For Students

SOCORRO, N.M. March 31, 2010 – The New Mexico Tech Business Office has unveiled e-billing services that give students the convenience of paying their university bills via the Internet.

Vice President of Finance Lonnie Marquez said he hopes the new service will make bill-paying less burdensome for students.
Electronic billing, or e-billing, will be implemented immediately (by April 1, 2010). Implementation of electronic billing will decrease the amount of mail sent from the Business Office, allowing the university to save time, resources and become more environmentally friendly.

Students will receive an e-mail via their official Tech e-mail address when they have a statement for review. A link in the e-mail will direct students to the secure area on the Tech e-billing web site. After logging in with their Banner ID and pin, students will be able to view their online statement. Students will also be able to authorize users to view their account and make payments.

Marquez said the upgrade is part of an ongoing project to implement new Banner software modules. Later in 2010, the university will add a web portal where students can access all their university information, including grades, e-mail, transcripts, schedules and other information. The university is also adding Banner modules that ease workflow for faculty and staff.

Online e-billing payment options and statements can also be accessed through Banweb's secure area under personal information or student account information.

Payments can be made through e-billing with a credit or debit card. The Business Office accepts American Express, Visa, MasterCard or Discover. Payment can also be made from a checking or savings account and automatic payments can be scheduled. 

Students will be able to set up deferred payments and will have two options through the e-billing system – three- or four-payment installment plans. In the past, students could only defer payments on room-and-board. Now, students can establish a payment plan on all costs – tuition, room-and-board and student fees – with a 20 percent down payment due at registration. A non-refundable $25 setup fee will be charged for students who elect to enroll in the deferred payment plan. For more questions, call Student Accounts at 835-5338.
