NMT is now accepting student applications to join the Board of Regents

New board member will serve two year term from 2019-2020

SOCORRO, N.M. – New Mexico Tech is now accepting applications for the Student Regent position on the Board of Regents. Current Student Regent Emily Silva’s term concludes at the end of the year. The next Student Regent will serve on the board for two years from Jan. 1, 2019, to Dec. 31, 2020.

The Student Regent position is a full board position, with the same voting privileges as the other four board members. This is an opportunity to represent the student population and the concerns and needs of current students.

Interested students can pick up an application in Brown Hall 216, the Office of the Vice President of Student and University Relations, or online. Click here for the official application. Applicants must also submit a letter of interest, resumé and transcript. Applications must be submitted by Friday, Nov. 16.

Students will be interviewed and selected by a committee appointed by university president Dr. Stephen Wells. The committee will submit a short list of names to the Governor’s office for final consideration.

The nominee will not officially assume the seat until the Governor’s selection is confirmed by the New Mexico State Legislature.

To qualify, applicants must meet these requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship
  • New Mexico residency
  • Full-time undergraduate or graduate student
  • Good academic standing
  • Registered voter
