SOCORRO, N.M. January 10, 2002 -- Bob Boston, director of educational media development at New Mexico Tech, recently was named one of ten finalists in a video production contest sponsored by Academy Publishing Company of Japan.
Boston's pilot video, Adventures in English, was among the top ten videos picked by the Japanese publishing company in a nationwide survey of educators and video producers who had produced videos supplementing the company's line of English language textbooks. Academy Publishing Company is the largest publisher of English language textbooks in Japan.
Boston's video will now go on to compete with the other nine finalists for the grand prize, which includes an opportunity to consult on and develop up to five video series for the international publishing company.
In Adventures in English, Boston employs a unique blend of camera tricks that results in what he calls "the Four Bobs."
"The Four Bobs is exactly what it says," Boston explains, "up to four Bobs on screen at the same time, singing and arguing about the finer points of speaking and reading English."
In his position with New Mexico Tech, Boston is responsible for developing and producing distance education and promotional videos for the state-supported research university.
