SOCORRO, N.M., Aug. 5, 2008 — New Mexico Tech students, staff and administration gave their best wishes to Brandon Samter, outgoing Director of International and Exchange Programs, in a farewell party in the Student Affairs office on August 1.
Since coming to Tech in April 2005, Samter has proved to be a valuable resource for students and staff. He helped international students adjust to life at Tech and in Socorro. He planned field trips with international students such as skiing, hiking, camping and tours of the VLA.
Light snacks, cake, and soft drinks were provided as everyone gave Samter good luck wishes at his next job in Boulder, Colo. He will soon begin his new job at Colorado School of Mines.
“The students, staff and community are unlike anything else and Socorro and Tech have a special place in my heart,” Samter said. “It’s been a great time here.”
The Student Affairs office has not yet filled Samter’s position. Melissa Jaramillo-Fleming, Assistant Vice President for Student and University Relations, said Student Affairs office staff will assist international and exchange students until a new director is found.
