Brian Sun also competed and Austin Mier assisted with scoring and is eager to shoot in the next completion. Virginia McLemore is the team’s coach and the N.M. state champion, outshooting the second place competitor by four points. McLemore also competed in the 2012 National Metric Prone Smallbore Rifle Championship in Bristol, Indiana, July 16 and17, where she won high intermediate senior (sixth overall). The Intermediate Senior class comprises competitors of age 55 to 64. McLemore won a championship belt buckle. She then traveled to Camp Perry, Ohio, for the National Smallbore Rifle Championships, where she placed third Intermediate Senior and 31st overall (nearly 320 competitors). McLemore then attended the NRA/USA Shooting Sports Association Collegiate Coaches Conference August 3 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, where she attended sessions to improve coaching skills and fundraising.
The New Mexico Rifle Team is currently preparing for the .22 Rifle Clinic on Oct. 12-1, also in Capitan, and additional championships during the winter and spring. New members of the New Mexico Tech Shooting Sports Club are welcome and encouraged to attend the rifle clinic in October.
