Initial ‘Career Cab’ Is A Rousing SuccessSOCORRO, N.M. April 23, 2012– The Career Services Office staged its first “Career Cab” event on Wednesday, ferrying students across campus and quizzing them about careers, resumes, interviews and campus services.
About 70 students got rides over a four hour period – and some faculty and a couple visiting firefighters. Everyone one got a prize, which included water bottles, T-shirts, cups and ear buds.
Anthony said the event was a lot of fun and a good way to promote the Career Services offerings. She thanked students Aaron Ramirez and Brenna Arredondo for their work on the Career Cab, which was based on the popular TV show, “Cash Cab.”
“Most students were reasonably well informed and most knew what the Career Cab was all about,” Anthony said. “But some others didn’t know we existed.”
The office offers assistance in resume writing and interview skills. The office also maintains the Career Connect web database, which lists job openings, internships and co-ops that are available to Tech students.
The Career Services Office hosts a Career Fair in the fall and in the spring semesters. They also presented the first Etiquette and Fashion Dinner earlier this spring.
Anthony, who started in the position last fall, said she hopes to continue to offer services that cater to the needs of Tech’s engineering and science community.
