Frederick J. Kuellmer Scholarship
During his long career with Tech, Frederick J. Kuellmer (1924-1992) served as a professor of geology, dean of students, graduate dean, vice president of Research and Economic Development, vice president of Academic Affairs; and, between the administrations of Tech Presidents Stirling Colgate and Ken Ford, acting president.
Kuellmer came to Socorro in 1952 as an economic geologist with the New Mexico Bureau of Mines and Mineral Resources, while completing his doctorate at the University of Chicago. He left in 1964, but returned in 1966 to stay.
"For years, Fred Kuellmer was the embodiment of academics at New Mexico Tech as a teacher, researcher, and administrator." A more extensive article summarizing his career is at http://www.nmt.edu/mainpage/news/1999/kuellmer.html.
