Whom to ask about specific residence hall issues

Who should my student call if something is not working properly in the room?


    Your student should contact their RA to put in a request for maintenance, or call the Residential Life office at X5900 (on campus) during business hours. If it is an emergency (flooding, etc) please have them contact Campus Police at X5434 or 0. (on campus). return to top

What if my student and his/her roommate (s) can't get along?

    Our Resident Assistant (RA) staff is trained in roommate conflict and mediation.  Encourage your student to talk to their RA about this situation.  The RA will talk with both students and try to work out a compromise.  If all else fails, the RA will discuss a room change. return to top

Who can my student talk to about homesickness or a personal situation?

    The RA is the first point of contact for any issue, but especially those of a sensitive nature. Your student's RA has not only experienced the day-to-day problems and anxieties that they may encounter as a student, but has been specially trained to help the student handle them.  RA's are there to help students adapt to living and academic environment. They will guide your student through the many issues that confront today's college student, such as academic difficulties, social life, and personal problems. return to top

How to get involved in Residential Life

How can my student become an RA?

    The best thing for your student to do is GET INVOLVED. JOIN Hall Council. Talk to RA's. Attend Programs. Find out about the job! Selection for Fall begins in February. return to top

How can my student participate in hall activities?

    The activities in the hall are open to anyone. There are always advertisements and they can also sign up for a list serve to get email reminders of campus events. return to top

Housing Assignments Information

When will my student receive a housing assignment?


    If your student applies by June 1, the room assignment mailed during the first week in June.  All applications received after this mailing will be sent out in Early August. Applications received after the August mailing will not be assigned. The student must come to the Residential Life Office (Altamirano Apartments Room 314) to get an assignment. return to top

What if my student wants to change hall or roommate requests?

    Come to the Residential Life Office during business hours. Make sure to have all participants come to the office. You will check out with your RA, and make sure to give them 24 hours notice. Room switches will occur beginning the 2nd week of school at the beginning of each semester, and will last for approximately 1 week. return to top
What if my student didn't get the room or roommate he requested?

    There are many reasons why your student didn't receive the requested roommate. Some include late date of either application, no space was left in your requested hall, or your requested roommate did not request you.  If you would like to discuss your individual situation, please contact us. return to top

Building Information and Services

How does my student make long distance telephone calls from his/her room?

    Long distance service is available through Information Services Department (ISD). Your student should contact ISD when they arrive on campus to received a TAC Code to place long distance calls. Long distance used is charged to the student's account. return to top

What laundry facilities are available?

    Each building, except Mountain Springs Apartments, has on site laundry facilities. Washers are $1.00 and dryers are $.50 for 45 minutes. return to top

What does my student need to bring, and what is provided in the room?

How does my student access the Internet in their room or apartment?

    Each residence hall room has Ethernet ports installed. To turn the ports on, your student must go to the Informational Services Department (ISD). There is a charge for the ports, which is determined by ISD. At this time, dial-up internet is not available. return to top
