Admission Requirements, Home-Schooled Students
In order to qualify for admission to New Mexico Tech, the home-schooled
student:
- must supply documentation of courses completed. A minimum
grade-point average (GPA) of 2.5 in coursework is required.
- (If your GPA is less than 2.5, see Appeal of Admission Decisions.)
- must have successfully completed the following courses (one unit
equals one year of study):
- English--a minimum of four units with at least one unit earned in
composition at the junior or senior level
- Science--a minimum of two units of sciences, with laboratories,
chosen from among biology, physics, chemistry, and earth science
- Mathematics--a minimum of three units chosen from among Algebra I,
Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, or higher mathematics
- Social Science--a minimum of three units, one of which must be
history.
A student who does not meet all of these requirements may
apply but must justify any deficiencies.
- The student must submit official
ACT, Inc. (formerly American
College Test) or
SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) score reports. (Our school code for
the SATs is 4533. Our code for the ACTs is 2642.)
Normally, an ACT composite score of 21 or higher or SAT combined score
of 970 or higher is required. Experience has shown that a student whose
scores are below these levels will encounter difficulty with the rigorous
academic curriculum at Tech. (Recent ACT scores for entering freshmen
have averaged 26; SAT scores have averaged 1080.) ACT and SAT scores are
used for course placement and advising purposes.
Procedure
The procedure is the same as for entering freshmen, except that, instead
of providing high school transcripts, home-schooled students
must provide documentation of courses completed.
- complete the
Application for Undergraduate Admission;
- provide documentation of all courses completed;
- provide official college transcripts, if the student has taken
college classes. (Students who have 30 or more college credits will be
considered transfer students.)
- provide either an official ACT Student Profile Report or an
SAT College Report; and
- pay a $15 application fee.
Appeal
Students who are denied admission may
appeal.
Application Deadlines
- August 1 for fall semester
- December 15 for spring semester
