Notes from the May 11, 2001 Regents Meeting

SOCORRO, N.M., May 11, 2001 -- The New Mexico Tech Board of Regents
has approved an average salary raise of 7 percent for all faculty
and staff members at the state-supported research university.
The raises, which are based on each individual's merit evaluations,
will become effective on July 1 at the start of the new fiscal
year.
"I am pleased that we were able to come up with this
kind of salary raise for everyone," said New Mexico Tech
President Daniel H. López. "Numerous staff and faculty
have been coming into my office to express their satisfaction
about this year's raises."
During its May 11 meeting, the Tech Board of Regents also
approved a total budget of $122,479,037 for the operation of the
university during the 2001-2002 Fiscal Year.
In addition, a budget adjustment request for the 2000-2001
Fiscal Year, under which the university currently is operating,
also was approved by school's governing board.
In other official actions taken during its monthly meeting,
the New Mexico Tech Board of Regents also approved the faculty
appointments of two new assistant professors of technical
communication--Daniel Jernigan and Richard Mott. Jernigan and
Mott will join the ranks of the Tech humanities department this
coming fall semester.
A budget and distribution of funds from the Marion and Irving
Langmuir Endowment for the ongoing operation of New Mexico Tech's
Langmuir Laboratory for Atmospheric Research also met with regental
approval.
During the meeting, the board was also informed that Gillian
M. Bond, professor of materials and metallurgical engineering,
Ronald J. Thomas, professor of electrical engineering, and Peter
Anselmo, professor of management, were all recently appointed
chairs of their respective departments.
