Notes from the Dec. 20, 2007 Regents Meetingby George Zamora SOCORRO, N.M., Dec. 20, 2007 – The New Mexico Tech Board of Regents, meeting in an emergency telephone conference this morning, has formally approved the disposition of excess property belonging to one of the university’s engineering research groups. The excess property, which was valued at more than $5,000 (hence, the required regental approval), is an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) unit that converts standard American electrical power into Russian electrical power. The surplus equipment, which is much larger than household UPS units, will be sold by New Mexico Tech through a bid auction as soon as possible. The specialized UPS unit was housed in office space in Albuquerque that had been leased out till the end of this year by the university’s Institute for Engineering Research and Applications (IERA) group. In a board meeting held in November, New Mexico Tech regents approved a new five-year lease agreement for more than 11,000-square-feet of office space to house IERA in another Albuquerque location, effective January 1, 2008. -NMT- |
