Education Consultant Named New Tech RegentRobert E. Taylor, an education consultant based in Silver City, N. M., recently was appointed by Governor Gary Johnson as the newest voting member of the New Mexico Tech Board of Regents. His term of appointment will be through Jan. 1, 2003 on the state-supported research university's governing board.Since 1986, Taylor has been an education consultant and principal for Taylor & Taylor Research Training and Educational Services, an independent firm which provides international consulting services to schools, businesses, and government agencies in areas related to educational planning, preparation, evaluation, and performance. Prior to becoming an education consultant, Taylor founded the National Center for Research in Vocational Education at Ohio State University and served as its executive director for 21 years. He also served as associate dean of the College of Agriculture and College of Education at Ohio State. Taylor also established and directed the first Educational Resource Information Center (ERIC) Clearinghouse in the United States. The ERIC network now comprises a system of 17 clearinghouses throughout the country serving all areas of education. Taylor is a noted international authority on administration, research and development, and policy related to workforce preparation, having worked with ministries of education and labor in 26 countries to improve education, research and development, and programming. Additionally, he has addressed state and national groups in all the states of the nation and has been a visiting professor or guest lecturer at 51 universities in the United States and abroad. He also has served on a number of national committees and commissions established by such groups as the National Academy of Science, U.S. Department of State, National Institute of Education, U.S. Department of Education, and the British Economic Council. He has more than 80 publications to his credit and has given over 170 formal presentations in his long and distinguished career as an educator. Over the years, Taylor has received numerous awards in recognition of his work in academia and last year was no exception: In April, he received the National Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of State Directors of Vocational Technical Education; in November, he was honored with an Alumni Meritorious Service Award from the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences at Ohio State University; and, in December, he was presented with the American Vocational Association's Carl Perkins Humanitarian Award. In addition to being a New Mexico Tech Regent, Taylor also currently serves as a member of the board of trustees at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I., and previously served as chairman of the New Mexico Commission on Higher Education. -NMT- (George Zamora) | |
