Summer Conferences at New Mexico Tech

SOCORRO, N.M., June 6, 2007 – Over the course of the summer, New Mexico Tech welcomes many groups who come from out of town to hold workshops, have meetings, and conduct many other activities. These groups make use of residence halls and food services that might otherwise be empty and under-used during the summer.

• [PAST] May 25-28: FolkMADs Dance Camp. Albuquerque’s Folk Music And Dance Society holds their annual dance camp at the Tech Gym.
• [PAST]May 27-June 30 UNM Anthropology Department Field Course. They are participating in a dig towards Carrizozo.
• [PAST] May 28-June 1, IRIS Consortium Meeting. The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology is a university research consortium dedicated to exploring the Earth's interior through the collection and distribution of seismographic data. New Mexico Tech is a member of the consortium.
• [PAST] June 3-8 Muscular Dystrophy Association Summer Camp.
• [PAST] June 4-7 “From the Ground Up,” a mining education program sponsored by the State Mine Inspector’s Office.
• [PAST] June 6-9 All-Star Baseball, The New Mexico triple-A North-South all-star base ball practice and game.
• [PAST]June 12, New Mexico Tech Summer Session begins
• [PAST]June 13-16 Duke City Youth Harmony. Youth from throughout New Mexico participate in workshops on barbershop singing, capped off with a performance at Macey Center on Saturday evening.
• [PAST]June 13-July 30. Summer Science Project. Youth from throughout the United States and the world come to Socorro for six weeks to learn physics and astronomy from faculty from universities in the United States.
• [PAST]June 15-17 UNM Guitar Workshop. Includes three classical guitar concerts open to the public
• [PAST]June 20-25 Girl Scout Fairplay. Girl Scouts from throughout New Mexico come to Tech to participate in engineering, mathematics and science learning activities, taught by leading women professors on the Tech campus
• [PAST]June 24-29, NMT Mini-courses. One-week summer courses for high school students interested in studying science in college. Sponsored by the NM Tech Admission Office, 835-5424.
• [PAST]July 19-22, Duke City Chorus Workshop. Barbershop singers gather for a weekend of singing and workshops on barbershop harmony.
• [PAST]July 20-22, Gus Macker Basketball. A 3-on-3 basketball tournament.
• July 29-August 3, New Mexico Property Tax Classes. IAAO Class Tax assessors from counties throughout New Mexico participate in crediting classes sponsored by the State Department of Taxation-Property Tax division.
• August 2-4, International Folk Dance Camp. The Albuquerque-based group Southwest International Folk Dance Institute (SWIFDI) holds this annual camp. This year, the camp features Turkish and Latin dances.
• August 8-16, UTEP Football Summer Camp. UTEP football comes to Socorro! The UTEP Miners come to campus for their summer football camp in preparation for their Fall season.
• August 10-12, New Mexichords Workshop. An accapella men’s singing group from Albuquerque come to Tech for workshops.
• August 17, Residence Halls open.
• August 21, New Mexico Tech Fall classes begin
