Hirschfeld Wins Best Paper Award

SEATTLE, Sept. 26, 2006 – New Mexico Tech materials engineering professor Deidre Hirschfeld is a co-author of a research paper that received a “best paper award” at the 2006 International Thermal Spray Conference & Exposition, which was held earlier this year in Seattle, Wash.

Hirschfeld presented her research paper, titled “Mechanisms Resulting in Improved Ductility of Cold Spray Coatings after Annealing,” at the annual conference, along with her co-authors, Aaron Hall of Sandia National Laboratories and Tim Roemer of Ktech Corporation in Albuquerque.

Hirschfeld, who is a past recipient of the New Mexico Tech Distinguished Teaching Award, is an active researcher at the university in the specialized fields of thermal spray coatings, engineering ceramics, advanced composites, and characterization of energetic materials.
