New Mexico Tech Women's Resource Center Hosts Luncheon

SOCORRO, N.M., Sept. 13, 2005 —The New Mexico Tech Women’s Resource Center recently hosted its fifth free lunch for women at the science and research university in Socorro.

Female faculty, staff, and students were all invited to eat, share, and connect with each other in the university’s Tripp Conference Room, inside the Joseph R. Skeen Library.

The recent luncheon is part of the outreach services provided by the Women’s Resource Center at Tech. The Women’s Resource Center was established at the university in March 2001 as an effort to connect to women on campus and provide them with resources to help meet their various needs.

The primary goals of the Women’s Resource Center include providing women with a safe place to express concerns, relax, learn, and connect with other people who understand women’s issues.

Throughout the year, the Women’s Resource Center also hosts informal gatherings, stress reduction courses, sponsored discussions, guest speakers, workshops, and video viewings.

The next event hosted by the Women’s Resource Center will be a poetry reading and art show by Margaret Randall and Barbara Byers. Randall and Byers will present exerpts from their book Grand Canyon Reflections, a recently published volume of poetry and illustrations focused on the Grand Canyon. The event will be held on Saturday, September 17 at 6 p.m. in the upper lobby of Macey Center. There will be books, art, and cards on sale at the event.
