OFFICIAL PROCLAMATION
of
"SUMMER SCIENCE PROGRAM DAY AT NEW MEXICO TECH"
WHEREAS the Summer Science Program has provided a renowned pre-college program
for academically gifted students since 1959;
WHEREAS the Summer Science Program has given its students unforgettable, life-changing
experiences by combining classroom lectures with team research projects;
WHEREAS many of the more than 1,500 Summer Science Program alumni have gone
on to successful careers in academia, research, business, and government;
WHEREAS the Summer Science Program has proven, year in and year out, its commitment
to the principle of pursuing knowledge for knowledge's sake; and
WHEREAS the Summer Science Program has now opened a new second campus at the
New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (New Mexico Tech), providing a
welcome and prestigious addition to the university's offerings:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, in my capacity as President of New
Mexico Tech, do hereby proclaim the date of Saturday, June 28, 2003
as

"SUMMER SCIENCE PROGRAM DAY AT NEW MEXICO TECH"
Furthermore, I urge all New Mexico Tech employees, faculty, and students,
as well as all citizens of Socorro and New Mexico, to participate in the ceremonies,
activities, and educational programs scheduled in commemoration of that day.
