Storey Wins Top Presentation Award at SHPE Conference

SOCORRO, N.M., February 17, 2003 -- New Mexico Tech senior Isaiah
K. Storey was awarded top honors for a technical paper presentation
he gave last month at a national conference sponsored by the Society
of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE).
Storey earned first-place overall in the 2003 National Technical
& Career Conference (NT&CC) Technical Paper Competition
in New Orleans, garnering a $2,000 cash award, an all- expenses-
paid trip to anywhere he chooses in North America, and an MP3
player for his academic efforts.
His award-winning presentation was titled "Analytical
Report on Ionic Liquids and Their Properties: Solvent Technologies
of the Future."
Storey, who also recently was appointed and officially confirmed
as the student board member on the New Mexico Tech
Board of Regents, is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in
chemical engineering at the state-supported research university.
He is a current member of the Tech student chapter of SHPE
and also serves as the group's public relations officer.
In addition to his studies at New Mexico Tech, Storey works
part-time as a laboratory technician at the university's
Energetic Materials Research
and Testing Center.
Storey is a native of Albuquerque and a graduate of St. Pius
X High School.
