by George Zamora
SOCORRO, N.M. February 13, 2003 -- In conjunction with next week's
observance of National Engineering Week, New Mexico Tech will
host two big events on its campus, which are designed to increase
public awareness and appreciation of engineering professions and
encourage precollege interest in science and technology.
"Engineering Weekend" at New Mexico Tech begins on Friday evening,
February 14, with a get-acquainted dinner for
participants at Macey Center.
On Saturday and Sunday, February 15-16, engineering faculty
and students at Tech will host various departmental open houses,
contests, and live demonstrations for about 100 professionals
and students expected to attend Engineering Weekend.
On Monday, February 17, prospective students and their families
will be treated throughout the day to informational
presentations and tours of several campus facilities during "Research
@ Tech Day."
Also in the spirit of National Engineering Week, Governor
Bill Richardson is expected to officially proclaim February 15-16
as "New Mexico Engineering Weekend."
