Tech Student Dies in Car Accident; Another Badly Injured

SOCORRO, N.M., September 30, 2002 -- New Mexico Tech senior Jeremiah
Wright, age 22, died Saturday night, September 28, of injuries
sustained in a two-car traffic accident in Socorro involving a
New Mexico State Police car and a car driven by another Tech senior,
Christopher Michel, age 22, who is currently listed in satisfactory
condition at the University of New Mexico (UNM) Hospital in Albuquerque.
Also killed in the collision, which occurred shortly before
10 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Bullock Avenue and
California Street, was Erron Todd, age 21, of Albuquerque. She was a
senior at the University of New Mexico.
New Mexico State Police officer Robert Carrejo was treated
and released that night for injuries he sustained in the crash.
An investigation of the double-fatal accident is ongoing.
Wright, who was pursuing a bachelor of science degree in
mechanical engineering at New Mexico Tech, was the team captain
of the university's rugby football club and worked as a research
associate at the school's Petroleum Recovery Research Center.
He was a native of Raton, N.M.
Michel is majoring in environmental engineering at New Mexico
Tech.
