Kiplinger's Ranks Tech Highly
by George Zamora
SOCORRO, N.M., September 24, 2002 -- New Mexico Tech is listed
as the 41st best buy among the nation's public colleges and universities
in an article featured in the current issue of Kiplinger's
magazine.
The state-funded research university in Socorro is the only
New Mexico school included in this year's list of the top 100
best values in public colleges, as determined by Kiplinger's.
New Mexico Tech also received special mention in the article
as a school that provides "a sense of familiarity and comfort, "
has a student/faculty ratio of 13 or less, and is an "out-of-state
deal" among the top public universities.
Kiplinger's overall rankings are determined by using
information that the schools themselves supplied, along with data
and statistics on more than 600 four-year public colleges and
universities provided by Wintergreen-Orchard House and the U.S.
Department of Education.
Earlier this month, New Mexico Tech also was included among
the 65 universities that make up the third-tier grouping in the
"Best National Universities--Doctoral" category in the
latest annual rankings published by U.S. News & World Report.
