Cynde Aaron Awarded AAUW Scholarship
by George Zamora
SOCORRO, N.M., April 23, 2002 -- Cynde Aaron, a graduate student
pursuing a master of science teaching degree at New Mexico Tech,
recently was awarded a scholarship by the Socorro Branch of the
American Association of University Women (AAUW).
Last summer, Aaron participated in a U.S. Department of Education
Fulbright-Hays Group Project that took her and 11 other New Mexico
secondary school teachers on a five-week field course to several
cities and wilderness areas in northern Brazil.
"My experiences at New Mexico Tech have been positive,"
Aaron says. "The advisors and professors are sensitive to
the needs of the students. They are always willing to work with students
to help them meet class requirements.
"I am particularly pleased with the quality of classes
and educators in New Mexico Tech's Master of Science degree program,"
she adds.
Aaron currently is employed by the Socorro Consolidated School
System as a teacher at AIM High School.
Since 1966, the Socorro branch of AAUW has held annual fundraisers,
with proceeds used to award a scholarship each year to a woman
deemed to be an "academically outstanding student at New
Mexico Tech."
