N.M. Tech Community College Hosts Annual Festival of Arts
by George Zamora
SOCORRO, N.M., November 12, 2002 -- The New Mexico Tech Community
College, an educational outreach division of New Mexico Tech,
will host its second annual "Festival of the Arts,"
beginning at 4 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, in the university's
Student Activity Center (SAC). Admission is offered free of charge.
Several fine arts and crafts items, handmade by local artists
and artisans enrolled in Tech Community College courses,
will be offered for sale at the pre-holiday event, including pottery,
paintings, photographs, stained glass, and metal works.
A host of performances and demonstrations also will be held
during the evening festival and will feature Community College
students and instructors tangoing, Irish step dancing, and belly
dancing. The performances will be followed by a dance sponsored
by the Tech Ballroom Dance Club, beginning at about 6:30 p.m.
"Festival of the Arts showcases our course offerings,"
says Marisa Wolfe, coordinator of educational outreach and distance
instruction at New Mexico Tech. "This means anything you
see at the festival, you can also learn to do at New Mexico Tech.
"This is a great opportunity to view the work of Community
College's talented students, find out about our spring course
offerings, and get started on your holiday shopping," she
adds.
