N.M. Tech Professor Emeritus Schery Authors Book

SOCORRO, N.M., October 4, 2001 -- Stephen D. Schery, a professor emeritus of physics at New Mexico Tech, is the author of the latest volume in the Environmental Science and Technology Library series, published by Kluwer Academic Publishers.

Schery wrote 'Understanding Radioactive Aerosols and Their Measurement' as an introduction to radioactivity and aerosols for
the scientifically literate reader with little or no previous exposure to either of these subjects.

Volume 19 of the Environmental Science and Technology Library series provides a step-by-step examination of radioactive
aerosols from the physical science perspective, covering topics such as indoor radon decay products, radioactive aerosols used as tracers of atmospheric processes, models of aerosol transport, and fallout from nuclear weapons and reactor accidents.

The book, which currently is available both in hardbound and paperback versions, is aimed at an interdisciplinary audience at
the advanced undergraduate science student level or higher, and is suitable for self study by professionals or for use as a
textbook in courses related to the subject.

Schery, who retired last year from teaching at New Mexico Tech, had been a research physicist and professor of physics at the university since 1979. He also served as director and principal investigator of Tech's Atmospheric Radioactivity
Laboratory since 1985.
