John Wilson Named Chair of New Consortium

Dr. John Wilson II by George Zamora

SOCORRO, N.M., December 20, 2001 -- John L. Wilson II, professor of hydrology at New Mexico Tech and chairman of the university's Earth and Environmental Science Department, recently was elected chairman of the Board of Directors of the Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Inc. (CUAHSI).

The newly formed consortium currently includes a charter membership of 43 U.S. universities, all with graduate degree programs in hydrologic sciences and a major commitment to research in that field.

CUAHSI was established to facilitate advancements in the hydrologic sciences by providing university researchers access to the most appropriate data, instruments, and technologies; creating hydrologic understanding to address pressing national and international problems; nurturing public perception of hydrologic sciences through programs of education and outreach; and assuring applicability of advances through a program of technology transfer.

Wilson has been a New Mexico Tech faculty member since 1984.
