John Wilson Named Chair of New Consortium

SOCORRO, N.M., December 20, 2001 -- John L. Wilson II, professor
of hydrology at New Mexico Tech and chairman of the university's
Earth and Environmental Science
Department, recently was elected chairman of the Board of
Directors of the Consortium of Universities for the Advancement
of Hydrologic Science, Inc. (CUAHSI).
The newly formed consortium currently includes a charter
membership of 43 U.S. universities, all with graduate degree
programs in hydrologic sciences and a major commitment to research
in that field.
CUAHSI was established to facilitate advancements in the
hydrologic sciences by providing university researchers access
to the most appropriate data, instruments, and technologies; creating
hydrologic understanding to address pressing national
and international problems; nurturing public perception of hydrologic
sciences through programs of education and outreach;
and assuring applicability of advances through a program of technology
transfer.
Wilson has been a New Mexico Tech faculty member since 1984.
