Aimone-Martin Appointed to Commission

SOCORRO, N.M., March 20, 2001 -- Catherine Aimone-Martin, a professor of mineral engineering at New Mexico Tech, recently was appointed to the New Mexico Coal Surface Mining Commission, a nine-member board which meets to adopt, amend, and repeal state regulations concerning coal surface mining activities.

In past years, Aimone-Martin has served as a board member of both the Santa Fe County Mining Plans Review Board and the U.S. National Committee for Rock Mechanics. She also has been called upon on numerous occasions as a consultant on geotechnical engineering projects and is a recognized throughout the mining and construction industries as an expert on blasting applications.

Aimone-Martin has been a faculty member at New Mexico Tech since 1981.
