by George Zamora
SOCORRO, N.M., February 1, 2001 -- The New Mexico Tech Research
Foundation has received a substantial corporate donation in the
form of intellectual property from DuPont Chemical Solutions Enterprise,
a subsidiary of corporate giant E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company
(DuPont).
DuPont, as the owner of certain patents, patent applications,
and technical information pertaining to the use of a strontium
chloride bath for sodium electrolysis, recently donated that specific
technology to the New Mexico Tech Research Foundation, an independent,
not-for-profit corporation affiliated with New Mexico Tech in
Socorro.
The transferred technology can be used, among other industrial
applications, to manufacture sodium. Its market value has not
been determined.
DuPont, a 200-year-old diversified chemical company, is recognized
throughout the world for having developed several innovative products
whose trademarks have become household names,
such as Teflon, Lycra, Kevlar, Dacron, Stainmaster, Mylar, Tyvek,
and Cordura.
