Science Olympiad Gears Up
by Marisa Wolfe
SOCORRO, N.M., January 8, 2001-- The New
Mexico Science Olmpiad is gearing up for another exciting
series of competitions! Each year, over 1,000 New Mexico students
participate in Science Olympiad events statewide. These students
compete individually and as teams in brain teaser and science
knowledge events such as Cell biology, Water Quality, Disease
Detectives, and Reach for the Stars.
Students across the state are now in training, toning their
brains and honing their skills to compete in their school's Olympiad.
Successful competitors will then move to one of five regional
competitions, as part of a team representing their school. Regional
competitions begin January 20.
Schools qualifying at the regional level will be invited
to compete at the state level. These exceptional minds will meet
on the campus of New Mexico Tech on Saturday, February 24, for
a
challenging day of competition. The top two teams successfuly
competing at the state competition will win an expenses paid trip
to Colorado Springs to compete against some of the finest minds
in the nation in the Science Olympiad Finals.
