NM Tech Student Chapter of ACerS Wins National Award
by George Zamora
SOCORRO, N.M., March 6, 2000 -- New Mexico Tech's student
chapter of the American Ceramic Society (ACerS) recently was awarded
the national organization's Student Congress "Best Community
Outreach Program" award.
The university's ACers student chapter was picked to receive
the prestigious honor at the annual ACerS/National Institute of
Ceramic Engineers (NICE) Student Congress, which was held earlier
this year in Cocoa Beach, Fla.
ACerS/NICE Student Congress delegates from several universities
throughout the nation, including New Mexico Tech, offered short
presentations outlining their respective chapter's
activities over the past year; and delegates attending the congress
then voted on which chapters should be singled out for the national
awards.
Other awards presented at the Student Congress, in addition
to the one won by New Mexico Tech, included "Best Fundraising
Program," "Best New Member Recruitment," "Best
Social Functions," and "Best Overall Student Chapter."
