by George Zamora
SOCORRO, N.M., November 16, 2000 -- New Mexico Tech recently
was ranked among the top 25 universities in the nation in terms
of how much the school spends on chemical engineering research
and development.
The current issue of Chemical & Engineering News
lists New Mexico Tech in the 20th position overall, with almost
$4.5 million spent on chemical engineering R&D for Fiscal
Year 1998.
Nearly 22 percent of the R&D spending for chemical engineering
research projects at the state-supported university was obtained
through federal funds.
The latest available statistics and figures used in the journal's
nationwide study were compiled this year from the National Science
Foundation's Survey of Scientific and Engineering Expenditures
at Universities and Colleges: Fiscal Year 1998.
