Tech Participants Do Well in Boston Marathon

BOSTON -- A hydrology professor and a doctoral candidate at New Mexico Tech competed in the recent 104th Running of the Boston Marathon and both did extremely well in one of the world's most famous athletic events.

In this past Monday's field of 17,813 marathon runners, Eric E. Small, assistant professor of hydrology at New Mexico Tech, placed 915th overall, while Vladimir Ispolatov, a Tech graduate student pursuing a Ph.D. in geochemistry, finished at the 1,011th position overall.

Small's official Boston Marathon 2000 time of 2:56:53 also netted him 870th among all male competitors and 648th in his age division.

Likewise, Ispolatov's official time of 2:57:55 garnered him the 962nd place among male competitors and 712th in his respective age division.
