Children's Center Teacher Gains Credentials

by George Zamora

Darlene Sanchez and some satisfied customers SOCORRO, N.M., December 14, 2000 -- Darlene Sanchez, an early childhood teacher at New Mexico Tech Children's Center, has been awarded the Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential in recognition of her outstanding work with young children.

The credential award recently was made by the Council for Professional Recognition in Washington, D.C., which represents the early childhood profession.

As part of the CDA assessment process, every candidate for the CDA credential is observed working with young children and their families by an early childhood professional. In addition, candidates must demonstrate the ability to work with families to develop their children's physical and intellectual capabilities in a safe and healthy learning environment.

Sanchez, a life-long resident of Magdalena, has worked at the New Mexico Tech Children's Center for the past five years.
