NM Tech Among Nation's Best

by George Zamora

SOCORRO, N.M., August 20, 1999 -- New Mexico Tech has once again been included on the list of the best engineering schools in the nation in recent rankings compiled by U.S. News & World Report. (If you have a printed copy of "America's Best Colleges," see p. 210 for a description of us, and p. 63, under the heading "Engineering.")

The state-supported research university in Socorro is joined in the elite group by four other public schools and nine private colleges in the magazine's unranked category of specialty schools that offer most of their degrees in engineering fields.

Please note: It is the magazine's choice to consider New Mexico Tech a "specialty school," not NMT's.

Earlier this year, New Mexico Tech's graduate program in hydrology was ranked fourth in the nation for the fourth year in a row in U.S. News & World Report's annual rankings of graduate school, while the university's graduate program in petroleum engineering made the guidebook's top ten list in that field of study.
