Dr. Ken MinschwanerDistinguished Teaching Award, 1998Ken Minschwaner came to Tech in 1994 as an assistant professor of physics. He has recently been granted tenure and promoted to associate professor of physics. In addition to his teaching duties and his active research in atmospheric physics and chemistry, he is advisor to the Physics Club and one of three co- advisors to the Solar Racing Team.Since all Tech students are required to take physics, Ken has a great variety of students, not only physics majors, in his classes. More than 30 of these students signed a letter nominating him for this award. They said, in part, "Dr. Minschwaner has an easy and open teaching style. This leads to dynamic and oftentimes humorous classes. He requires us to present homework problems which lead to a greater understanding of the subject matter. He has found a nice balance between the presentation of facts and the necessity of learning how to "think." We appreciate his genuine concern for our understanding of physics." | |
