John Harty Memorial Scholarship

The John Harty Memorial Scholarship was established in 1967 for the purpose of providing a scholarship to a deserving student majoring in physics or geophysics at New Mexico Tech. The scholarship fund was endowed by Mrs. Bessie I. Harty (widow of John Harty) and friends of John Harty, in recognition of Professor Harty's contribution to the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology and to the State of New Mexico through his efforts in founding the Department of Physics and Geophysics at New Mexico Tech, for inaugurating the Stte Science Fair program in New Mexico, and for his many other contributions to education in the sciences in the state.
